Shared interests make a match more likely, but they rule nobody out — you’ll be matched either way.

Messages from a random chat don’t go into our permanent database. The last messages stay in the server’s memory for 15 minutes after the conversation and then disappear. Those 15 minutes exist so that we can look into a report about that chat. We don’t record video or voice.

Add to contacts → private chat → history
If you both tap “Add to contacts”, the conversation moves into a private chat and is stored with us, so you can come back to it. Messages are encrypted in transit. We don’t have end-to-end encryption.

Questions about chatting with random people
Is this an anonymous chat? Can I use it without signing up?
The conversation is anonymous: the stranger you’re matched with doesn’t see your real name, your email address or your city. In text and voice chats they see a blurred version of your profile photo instead of a clear one; only a partner with an active Boost can reveal it, and only for themselves, for that one conversation. But you can’t skip signing in altogether: to start a search you sign in with an account you already have. There’s no password, no form to fill in and no guest mode.
Do I need Telegram? I was looking for an anonymous chat on Telegram
No, you don’t need it. Veilr runs in your browser — no bot, no channel and no messenger account.
Can I choose who I talk to — a woman or a man?
Yes, and it’s free. Set your own gender in your profile first; after that you can choose the gender of the person you meet. Veilr looks for those people first — as long as someone like that is online. If nobody is, you’re connected to someone else instead of being left waiting. The other person’s choice is respected too. With Boost your choices become hard filters and you go to the front of the queue.
Can I talk to people abroad if I don’t speak their language?
Yes — that’s what Veilr is built for. We don’t match people by language, so you can talk to anyone. Their message arrives in your language, and the original is one tap away. On a call, you can read what they say as captions when your languages differ. Every account gets a free allowance of translations, rewards top it up, and Boost lifts the limit. If translation is unavailable, the message still arrives — exactly as it was typed.

Is it free?

What is the minimum age?
You have to be 18. Veilr is for adults only — that’s a condition of using it.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The site opens in your phone browser and the chat takes the whole screen.
How is this different from Omegle, Monkey and other random chat sites?

Can I find the same person again?
Only if you both want to. “Add to contacts” has to be tapped by both of you. If only you tap it, the other person gets a request; no contact is created and no conversation is saved until they tap it too. There’s no search for people by name or username.
Is it safe to talk to strangers here?
You always have a way out: you can report someone right from the chat, and you can block them — a blocked person isn’t shown to you again. Veilr is 18+, and the stranger you’re matched with doesn’t see your real name, your email address or your city.
